Cutaneous Reactions with Culture Filtrates of the Colon Typhoid Type
نویسندگان
چکیده
The observations of Ecker and Rimington on the production of skin reactions with synthetic medium culture filtrates (concentrated and dialyzed) of organisms belonging to the colon-typhoid group have been confirmed and extended. The filtrates show a marked degree of thermostability and marked resistance to ultraviolet radiation. Intravenous injections of the filtrates stimulate the production of precipitins. No precipitins are produced in the sera of rabbits that receive intracutaneous injections only. At no time during the course of immunization was the skin reaction obliterated. An indurative process was noted at the site of injection (skin) during the course of immunization. Mixtures of the filtrates with their homologous antisera, obtained from animals immunized by the intravenous route, and injected into skin, also failed to obliterate the erythema and edema. The observations of Shwartzman have been confirmed; the Shwartzman phenomenon appears to be group or species specific. Filtrates from enterococci failed to produce the phenomenon. Filtrates of other unrelated organisms have not been studied. The products of Shwartzman and of Ecker and Rimington appear to be the same.

Clinical and Laboratory Features of Anticonvulsant Cutaneous Reactions
Background: Cutaneous drug reaction is a common side effect of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). In recent years, a significant increase in cases of cutaneous drug reaction due to AEDs and some changes in its pattern in our department have been noticed. Therefore, we carried out this study to present clinical and paraclinical characteristics of these cases. Methods: All records of patients who were h...

The subject of infections by members of the group of organisms intermediate to the typhoid bacillus and the typical colon bacillus of Escherich -the so-called paracolon bacilliis one of ever-increasing interest. The name "paracolon " was first applied to the group by Gilbert,' who described five types of paracolon bacilli. He found members of this group present in the intestinal canal of man an...
متن کاملPhenomenon of Local Skin Reactivity to Bacillus Tuberculosis
New toxic substances in certain tuberculin, O.T., and B. typhosus culture filtrates are described. These substances are capable of eliciting the hemorrhagic necrosis characteristic of the phenomenon of local skin reactivity provided heterologous bacterial filtrates of high potency are used either for the intradermal or the intravenous injection. The toxic substances apparently have no relations...
متن کاملThe ability of marine Bacillus spp. isolated from fish gastrointestinal tract and culture pond sediment to inhibit growth of aquatic pathogenic bacteria
In this research, antagonistic activity of two Bacillus species isolated from digestive tract of marine fish and culture pond of sea cucumber was studied. The inhibitory activity of Bacillus spp. isolates against some common pathogenic bacteria of fish was assessed using the agar diffusion method. The strain of B. subtilis G024 exhibited antimicrobial activity against Vibrio anguillarum, V. har...
